Shark Weekend Takes Over McWane
Guests can learn about shark species from experts as well as see our new Shark Wall!
Birmingham, AL – McWane Science Center is excited to host “Shark Weekend! Shark fanatics can join us Saturday, August 24th and Sunday, August 25th to learn more about these fascinating creatures of the deep. Guests will have the opportunity to meet and talk with shark scientists from Mississippi State University and McWane’s own shark paleontologist. You will be able to search for fossil shark teeth in the Shark Lab, see a live shark dissection, and check out our new shark wall exhibit. This is also the last opportunity for guests see and touch the new Cownose Rays in our Touch Tank, as the tank will close for maintenance temporarily, following this event.
(The touch tank is expected to reopen in early November)
Also available is the large-screen documentary “Great White Shark” on our IMAX Dome! It’s a weekend of sharky fun for the whole family!

Saturday, August 24
10:30 to Noon – Meet shark scientists from the Marine Fisheries Ecology Lab at the Mississippi State University Coastal Research and Extension Center
11AM to Noon – Shark Lab
1PM to 2PM – Meet McWane’s Shark Paleontologist
2PM to 3PM – Shark Lab
3PM to 3:45PM – Live Shark Dissection. Location: Level 1, Rushton Theater
Great White Shark Movie times: 11:30, 2:30, 4:30
Sunday, August 25
1PM to 2PM – Shark Lab. Location: Level 2, Explore!
2PM to 3PM – Meet McWane’s Shark Paleontologist
3PM to 4PM – Shark Lab. Location: Level 2, Explore!
4PM to 5PM – Meet McWane’s Shark Paleontologist
